The queens of coastal themed craft the Seaside Sisters returned to Vintage for the second year in a row in July where they launched their souvenir shop and hosted a brooch and pennant making marathon inside the Royal Festival Hall. Read all about their fun crafty times at Vintage on their blog here.
We popped along to the closing day of their Craft Central take over yesterday and fell in love with their collection of sweet vintage British souvenirs, in particular the Blackpool tower snowdomes, Norfolk beer mugs and Cornish tea trays. It was difficult not to be impressed by their many creative and unusual ways of upcycling a vintage souvenir tea towel including these beautifully handmade duffel bags.
If you missed both the events above, fear not! They are extremely excited to be taking over the stunning LV21 lightship next week, at Gillingham Pier in Kent. The beautiful, bright red, 40 metre long ship is undergoing conversion to become an important arts venue for Medway. Wayne also supports the project saying "The Lightship Project seems to hit all the right spots. It sustainably brings back to life an iconic piece of local heritage and in doing so provides a home and venue for the local creative industries, a sector of the British economy that is second only to the service sector. The creative sector is creating employment and nationally is proving a catalyst to regeneration. Carefully thought out this project should bring serendipity, opportunity and inward investment to the Medway.”
The Seaside Sisters will be making the most of this fascinating space with seaside themed sets, exhibiting their work with theatrical waves, a floral clock and Punch and Judy inspired displays. There will be lots of activities and craft workshops for children and adults to join, and a shop selling Seaside Sisters crafts and vintage UK souvenirs.
Sounds like the perfect excuse to visit and support this super arts project. Have fun!
